Default Help!!!!

The stud from manifold to x pipe has snapped. Hitting it with everything from penetrating oil, heat, impact. The stud gradually kept snapping now it’s almost down to the manifold I really don’t want
to drill because I have done the whole drill out bullshit numerous times in the past and it never ends well. Drill doesn’t stay straight, or drill bit and/or tap breaks. Anyone have any advice? I don’t want to f**k up the flange and I don’t want to have to resort to taking the manifold out unless absolutely necessary. Thanks in advance. 1997 C5, 6 speed

Sounds like you have three choices....drill it out, EZ-out, or weld a nut on the stud. Most people that struggle with drilling/EZ-out suffer from poor position or impatience. The key to success is starting with a flat stud (cut or filed), use a center punch, and start with a small drill bit, and work your way up to either the next size, or required EZ-out size.

In all three cases, the best chance for success is with manifold removed from the car.

I agree with best results will be achieved by removing manifold and making repairs/extractions on the bench. It sucks but you knew the answer before you asked it. Good luck

I don’t want to have to resort to taking the manifold out unless absolutely necessary.
You've tried everything to avoid it but you're at the "absolutely necessary" point now.

They make a c-clamp for exactly this situation. Is it optimum? No. Is it possibly adequate? Yes.
Also, when I’ve been in a similar situation in my past (admittedly with a SBC), the manifold to head bolts were just as argumentative. If you go that route, be very cautious.
