I was at a local speedshop here in Oceanside dropping off the heads off of my L98 C4 for a valve job. I started talking with the tech about some future mods I would like to do to my C5 (H/C etc.) Anyway the subject came to installing Crane roller tip rockers, he suggested that I not install after market rockers because they were basically designed for 1/4 mile usage where the valve train is inspected at least weekly. He also stated that the needle bearing tended to come loose and drop in the pan. But, if I was willing to do the maintenance, the HP gains are there to be had and he would be more then happy to sell them to me.
I would be a little ticked if those 800 dollar rockers came apart and grenade the engine. Anyone have problems with rockers coming apart?
I had mine changed on my T/A and ran it for two years without any problems. I bought the springs, but didnt change them and sold them on this forum a couple months back.
Re: Roller tip rockers on the street (Killrwheels)
Go for it!
There are different type bearings in the racing realm. I have to think there's more than one option for an LS engine, if you are concerned. btw, not everyone with roller-rockers runs 1/4 and inspects! We've used a variety of types at B'ville and on the street without incident.
I'm not sure what ratio you would run on your c4, I have had 1.8 roller rockers (crane) for 2 years, I seldom get to the track, drive my car all the time without incident, (with over 500rwhp) and have never had a problem and have never inspected them, I'm building some bigger valve ls6 heads currently and will put them on the new heads.

Re: Roller tip rockers on the street (RHILL)
RHILL,
I've been running roller tipped rockers on a 383 SBC daily driver for a number of years and more than a few thousand miles with no problems. When researching them 6 years ago, the isues that I discovered were similar to whay you mentioned but they were for trunion rockers-not stock style roller tipped. As for the LS6, I would rather go to a different cam than a larger rocker ratio to prevent possible geometry changes. JMHO
I run roller rockers from Vinci Hi-Performance they have about 15,000 miles on them and about 215 documented dragraces on them with no problems what so ever. I just (last year) had them put on my new heads from Vinci along with a new cam and the new set up has about 50 runs on it with no problems what so ever!!
