There was an article in the Feb. 2003 issue of Popular Hot Rodding that showed the installation and dyno results of a SLP 1.85 ratio rocker kit for the LS1. The kit consisted of 1.85 ratio rockers, of course, new springs, and optionally new spring retainers. Dyno results showed a horsepower gain of 19.4 hp and torque gain of 13.3 ft-lbs. The gains are nice and even over the whole rpm range. I looked on SLP's web site and their price for the kit is under $700 with the titanium retainers. For installation, you only need to work under the valve covers and not get into the core of the engine. I'd do this on my car, but it would push me up into another class in NCCC that I don't want to be in.
I did it on my car along with other mods (longtubes, ls6 intake) The car pulled well at 4k and above. If you dont want to open your engine up the 1.8's is one of the few things you can do. :yesnod:
I took them out and sold them recently after installing the new setup on my car.
I installed mine with other mods as well (crane 1.8 roller rockers) just looking at the roller tips, the weight etc was impressive compared to stock rockers, they do seem to rev faster and they increase cam lift so they must produce something, the typical claims are in the 14 to 18rwhp range. Crane is currently working on a variable rail rocker setup that varies between 1.7 and 1.9 depending on how hard you are pushing, not sure how they work but we will see in the next few months.
I put a set on my car along with blackwing,ls6 intake, and home ported heads I dynoed at 351/345 with the stock cam. This is through an a4 also. I didnt have the car dynoed before but I know I gained some decent numbers looking at the other a4 pre-01 cars dyno stock.
If you are in the market for these in the next few weeks I might be selling mine due to building another engine and I am going with a different setup.
I did the 1.8 roller rocker set with guides and push rods from Vinci Hi-Performance. (They are really 1.856) I found out that I needed to add competition springs and retainers to cure a flat spot at 5000RPM. That set up with Tri Flow Short tube headers and Basani X-Pipe got me 12.13 @ 113 MPH with a 3.42 rear end and an A4. Changing to FLP system, 3.73, Vinci roller cam, CNC heads and a 3.73 I got 11.68 @ 116MPH. Next will be a Vortech SC and hopefully consistant 11.20 - 30's @ 118 - 120MPH
