Default Oil level?

I just did the 1st oil change on my '03 coupe and, after feeding the engine 6 qts. Mobil 1, as anticipated, the dipstk showed a little low. I drove it for a bit to warm up & get oil circulated. Parked in my driveway (slight tilt) & the low oil level message flashed. I put in another half quart, but the dip stk still registered a little low (after drain down time). So I fed the remaining 1/2 qt. for a total of 7 qts. opposed to the 6- 1/2 in the specs.
My questions are:
a) is the oil level sensor that sensitive ?
b) any bad news regarding overfill by 1/2 qt. to register full on dipstick? I know they will vary slightly from car to car.
Seems like a "rookie" question but better safe than sorry!!!
After all... this is my Corvette we're talkin about here!
Thanks for any input.

I always drain mine for a long time and at a slight angle. It always takes 7 quarts to return the level to full on the dipstick.

Don't worry. Your Okay with 7 quarts if you pretty much got all the old oil out. Just make sure that when you check the level, that the engine has been off for at least 5 minutes and that the dip stick is pushed all the way home before you draw it out to read the level. If you check the oil right after shutting down the engine, some of the oil that is doing its work in the top of the engine hasn't had the time to return to the pan, which may result in a low level indication.

Most low oil level sensors will not indicate low until you are at least 1 whole quart low.

The service and the owners manual's list 6.5 quarts as the specification. Having said that, I have run 7 to 7.5 quarts with no ill effect. As a matter of fact, the Z06 video goes on record to say: add an extra quart to the crankcase when you have it under high performance conditions due to lateral loading (lessen the chances for oil starvation). When your low oil warning light first comes on, you are app 1 to 1.5 qt low. So just mentally readjust the "full" level with the oil on the dip stick.
