Hello all, joined the forum today in hopes of getting some help from those who've been around the block with 'Vettes.
Couple days ago I pulled a C1291 code from my '98 C5 I just bought 2 weeks ago. Did some looking here the past few days to run diag and other things I could do myself; check fuses etc. I and my more mechanically inclined co-workers at a shop I work at are pretty sure its the brake light switch itself, which has so far proven impossible to source in northern NJ/tristate area.
I've reached out to the dealer I bought the car from and we're trying to work that out, my shop and several parts shops in the area are on the lookout for a switch. So really, I'm here to spread my net out as wide as I can. The nearest reputable Corvette specialist is probably a half hour to an hour away, and there's no guarantee they have one. Does anyone have any ideas? And a follow-up question I didn't really see an answer to is; Are brake light switches from other 'Vettes compatible with the C5? I know there's a fair bit of parts sharing and compatibility with corvettes of different generations, but just how far does it go?

Mechanically inclined doesn't always help when you need electrical expertise. This is a pretty simple troubleshooting procedure in your service manual in Brakes>Antilock Brake System>Diagnostic Information and Procedures>DTC C1291.......
No reason why you should not be absolutely certain if you have a bad switch or not. Just need a DMM.
