Default Broken Valve Spring

Car is a 9,100 mile 2004 Z06.

Doing an A and A kit, BTR Stage 1 blower cam, Kooks/Corsa exhaust.

Went to change valve springs today and I see this on what looks like Cylinder 3 exhaust valve spring.

Is that broken? Sure looks broken to me.

What protocol you guys think now? Pull the head and inspect valve/piston?

Throw a new spring on and run it? It was running great, zero noises, was pretty surprised when I pulled that valve cover off.

If it were mine I'm pulling that head and inspecting for piston contact and replacing all the valve springs on both heads with new springs.

pull the head, check to verify damage. I'd look at the pistons, verify the valve isn't bent, damage to the valve guide, and valve seat. A bent valve can seal and run but eventually the valve will fail. Better to check everything out up front than finding a motor. Pulling the head isn't a bad job.

I'd find a good local machine shop to check the heads. If you are in Atlanta, I have one.

8min he really gets to the point

even more in depth if you are interested. 15 min is the scenario I'd be concerned with.

Before I would start pulling heads I would check the piston and cylindr with a boreoscope. That will tell you if the piston hit the valve. You can pretty easily check that the valve isn't bent hne you change the spring. After that a compression test will tell if the valve is sealing properly.

Borescope. Pretty easy, and if you don’t see anything change all the springs and drive.
Just my thoughts, and your mileage will vary.

Exactly...no need to pull the head yet

Leak down would be a better test in this case.
