My voltage is at 12.4 on the DIC. No battery light is on, but I have verified the voltage at the battery with a voltmeter. Is my alternator toast, or possibly something else. Thanks in advance.

Not much information here…so you see 12.4 volts on the DIC ??…is the car running or key on ??…what is the voltage at the battery car running ??…voltage at the battery will always be about .3 to .4 volts higher at the battery engine running…what is battery voltage ??…what is the voltage at the alternator B+ ??…do you know how to perform a voltage drop test on the charging system ??

The car stopped with no accessories should show around 12.4 or more.

Car running with full charge should be just over 14 volts.

Car running with air and lights around 13.4 bolts give or take.

Has the car been sitting with no tender on it?

A FLA battery with 12.4 volts is less than 80% charged…a fully charged FLA battery is 12.66 volts…by “car stopped” do you mean engine off or the car not moving ??

A new fully charged battery should read 12.7- 12.8 volts. If you are not well over 13 volts running, you have a charging problem

Fully charged 12.6 but used battery’s and most corvettes sitting as much as they do will be found at 12.4 and still start. That is bathe low end where it will still start. Actually it is 75%.

Running 13.4 to 14.5 depending on temp, load and battery

All these numbers can vary a volt or two. The DIC is not always in agreement with a volt meter,

Either way these numbers are with in operating norms. If it is below 10.5 volts batteries especially glass mat batteries get funky and won’t take a charge unless you have the proper charger. This is why so many think their Optima is defective. Generally it is low and they are using the wrong charger.

Get below 12.4 then you may see codes pop up that are not real. It may start and run but the body control module can do some odd things.
