Hello all,
I have a 99 coupe with a six speed manual transmission that has recently started to become difficult to shift into reverse and, randomly pops out of second gear. Feels like maybe some type of linkage issue?? Can anyone recommend a good Corvette mechanic in the Minneapolis MN area that could diagnose the exact problem and provide a repair solution?
Thanks for any suggestions our advice
Thanks for the info, it doesn't ever pop out of reverse only in second gear. I have to jiggle the shifter around to get it into reverse then once it is in it stays in until I shift to a forward gear.

In that case, try adjusting the shifter with the alignment pin.
This is typically for these cars, I have a few options to solve the problem. Getting increasingly harder then impossible to get into reverse is due to the bolt on the linkage being loose. The box under the shifter is also worn out and sloppy, for sure which adds to the problem and the vague sloppy feel of the shifter. To solve this problem you can remove that bolt, clean the threads off with brake cleaner and reinstall it with RED Loctite. If you want your shifter to feel a whole lot better you can send me your box to be upgraded, if you don't want to do that I recommend at the very least replacing the shifter bushing on the bottom of your shifter with the improved version I make, it helps a lot for what it is.
If you have any questions shoot me an email, I'm happy to answer anything I can.
