Hello, this is gonna be kinda lengthy but I want to add as many details as possible. My c5 2002 corvette was fine. It rained one day outside and the next day when I went to start it it would not start. It cranked, but that was it. The dash lights flickered like crazy and were dim. First thing I did was check the battery, the terminals were a little loose, so I went ahead and cleaned them and torqued them to what my manual calls for. I then charged my battery to make sure that wasn’t the culprit, battery is at 100%. Tried again and now it wouldn’t crank and I had no dash lights. After some reading I found it could be due to the ignition switch being dirty and losing contact. I took that apart and used electrical cleaner, reassembled and tried to fire it up again and the key wouldn’t even turn. So one again I took it apart, reassembled everything, and now the key turns, the car cranks, but the car will not start. the dash lights now work but on board diagnostics won’t even work. I’ve checked all grounds and cleaned them, relays and fuses are all good. The floorboard and bcm are not wet. I’m at a loss. Please help this car is testing my ever loving patience lol
There are two connectors by the BCM that have metal jumpers or as they are called here combs. This combs are where the seriel data highway wires are all connected together. There is a video which shows how to remove the combs and place a wire jumper which connects only the BCM and PCM, eliminating all other modules, and possibly helping pinpoint the problem to the BCM or PCM.

Well, you won't find a reference for "combs" in service manual or schematics. They are called "Star Connector 1" and "Star Connector 2"
FYI….below is the Splice Pack or Star Connector per Service Info and the “comb” which those of us like myself that have been familiar with SAE J1850 (VPW) since the early 90’s have been calling it a “comb” or “buss bar” since that time…it is technically called a “shorting bar” in factory Service Info and if you didn’t know the original purpose of these splice packs were for programming of the modules.

If this is a “crank no start” I would first determine if this is a communication issue by using a scan tool…if you can’t communicate with the car you’ll go in that direction…if you can communicate I would look at your Tach while cranking and see if the Tach moves…if it doesn’t it may be a crank sensor…you will not have spark or injector pulse…can you hear the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds when the key is turned on ??…if not this may be a pump issue…if you do hear the pump I would spray some Brake Kleen or similar into the intake manifold either through the brake booster or PCV…if the car starts for a few seconds I would get a fuel pressure gauge and check fuel pressure…good luck !!

Yes, we call them “combs” !!…the comb is the comb and not the star connector.
