Ok I got the Hurst in..easy to install but upon acceleration the **** rattles.....tried wrapping elec tape around threads and putting **** on tight....tried felt tip at top of shifter.......nothing works.....whats up with this rattle??????????? I put the "demon key" back in tight.....I wont live with this rattle...but like the shorter throws!!!!!!!!!!!! It rattles with/without shift cap on...so its the ****!
I got the exact same noise after I installed my B&M Ripper. It drove me nuts! Then I saw this fix on the Forum a while back and it and it totally eliminated the noise. I still even use the stock shift ****.
Go down to your local tire shop and get a handful of tape-on wheel weights.
With a couple of pliers, bend the weights so they are crescent shaped.
Now place them on the shifter shaft.
Use as many weights as you can get on it.
Secure them with some small zip ties.
I also had this issue with the Ripper. The wheel weights are probably the best way to go. I used rubber hoses. I took the shifter to a friend's auto parts store and played with various hoses. The hoses dampened much of the noise, but it was still there. I put on a billet **** and believe it or not, the noise is completely gone. I used the **** from Corvette Concepts - it has the corvette flags on the shifter. It gets cold/hot, but only in extreme conditions. I keep a flimsy coolie holder nearby to pout on top of the shifter until the temperature is good. Hope this helps.

I must be one of the lucky ones, because mine never rattled, vibrated, or anything! When you twisted the factory **** back on did you run it down until the it would turn no more? That is what I did, it just so happens that the **** was point in the correct direction when it bottomed out on the shaft...
Really weird thing here is I ended up with the factory **** back on because the billet polished aluminum Kirban **** and the black anodized crossed flags **** both allowed too much vibration through. The factory **** is much quieter on my car than the other two *****.
The weights absorb some of the sound. I used the hoses to dampen - the stock shifter uses something to dampen.
This issue has been long discussed with as much as 50/50 split in who had noise and who did not.
One other item, sometimes I find myself pulling on the **** after a 1-2 shift and this seems to trigger some noise. Not really a rattle, more of a vibration. Good luck.
I used Teflon tape and wrapped the threads a number of times. The shift **** noise went away. However, then I got noise from the transmission tunnel and the shifter ended up back in the box. The notchiness didn't go away and I didn't think it was a good addition to the car overall. I may try it again this summer after the caravan though.
