Default AC light not turning on

Hello,
I'm 22 years old and I've just bought a 1999 FRC. I've really been enjoying the car, but the car's AC isn't working.

The previous owner had said he was hearing a lot of noise coming from the AC belt and it wasn't working anyway so they just cut it. They also said they installed a new compressor about 15k miles ago. I've since replaced the belt and haven't been hearing any noise but the AC still doesn't work. From what I've seen from other posts when people are saying that their AC isn't working they describe the AC light flashing which indicates a freon issue. The difference is that my AC light won't ever turn on. No flashing at all. I'm not hearing anything kick off when I press the button. All of the other buttons work as normal. I've checked all of the HVAC fuses and relays, and they are all good. I'm guessing there is an electrical issue somewhere, probably a grounding issue but I'm new to this and I don't really know where to start. Any advice would be much appreciated!

You may have lost all your refrigerant charge. A gauge set will show if you have any pressure.
There have been a few previous threads where the connector or the wiring to the connector for the high side pressure sensor were bad.
Since the previous owner cut the belt, have you verified the connector to the a/c compressor clutch is plugged in?

I feel ya bud, AC not working is a huge issue with me. I've been where you are starting many many years ago. For the longest time I knew I could fix it, add some freon, replace the compressor clutch...every once in a while i was successful for a short period. However years back I did more damage. Not too long ago, I almost did damage. I don't have the proper tools and depth of knowledge to work on AC. Tear the engine apart and fix or make better, yep. AC nope. I reccomend find a local competent professional and take it to that person. I found a local shop advocated by a local corvette club. It's been freezing me out for 8 months and cost like $350.00. ⁰

I suspect the seller lied to you and knew the compressor was bad, that is why they cut the belt. Get yourself a good bidirectional scan tool, a set of factory service manuals (FSM) so you can learn how to probably troubleshoot and repair the car, or be prepared to pay a lot of money to have someone else do the work. I have the FSMs and I've used ALLDATA for many years https://www.alldata.com/diy-us/en. It is not as good as the FSM in my opinion but it will allow you to print drawings, electrical diagrams, and provide listings of all applicable technical service bulletins (TSBs). Good luck with your project.
