Good morning,
Wondering if all of the C5 Vettes with auto transmissions are the same? I have an '02 and I'm looking for a transmission. I may pop for a nice stage 2 or upgraded trans from a reputable builder or considering a "junk-yard" trans to get me by for a while (though not crazy about doing the job twice).
Do I need to narrow my search or will any 97-04 4L60e work?
Also, is there any conflict mating any C5 3.42 differential with any 4L60e transmission?
Advice/help appreciated!
I think that is what I have heard elsewhere…that improvements where made in 2001.
Yep. The 4L60E received the 5-pinion gearsets and some other stronger internals in 2001 but it remained the 4L60E throughout the C5 generation. My 2004 convertible was built on 3/5/04 and has the M30 Auto Trans code on the build sheet which is the 4L60E. I read earlier the 4L65E was paired up to GM trucks and 6.0 Liter vehicles in 2001 and then was used for the C6 Corvette in 2005 for one year only before GM switched to the 6L80, 6-speed automatic transmission in 2006.
So in answer to the original question, any C5 4L60E should work, but if you find one from a 2001-2004, it has the 5 pinion gearsets and some other stronger internals. RPM and A&A both referenced the same thing when I added my SC and 3.42 rear gears earlier this year.
