Default ABS Module

Several weeks ago my abs/traction control lights came on along with a message to service them. I ran a code check and code c1218 H came up. I cleared the code but that did not solve anything. I then cleaned several grounds and again problem still there.
I then cleaned the ground on the left side of my engine compartment just to the rear of the headlight assy. . The warning lights did not come on and there were no codes. This lasted about 10 days and now the warning lights and code are back.
I checked my battery and alternator and they are fine.
I was wondering if there is anything else I can do before removing the module for repair? Is it safe to drive without the module not in the car?
This thread is also in c5 tech as I am searching all sources for help.

Thanks in advance for all responses

I don't recall the code(s) offhand, but starting with the assumption that this is your ABS module that is throwing the code, you could try "exercising" the module with some hard stops (when it is safe to do so naturally). I was told anecdotally that this would (may) cause the inner workings to actually perform their function, and if the ABS isn't activated from time to time, said disuse can cause issues. If your module is not working, your brakes will still perform, albeit without the anti-lock function. You didn't mention the year of your car; my understanding is only the 2001+ modules are repairable (but maybe that's changed as I haven't followed this). Good luck.

If your talking about the EBCm module, I would be a little afraid of driving with the EBCM elecrical unitnot in place or tape the mechanical section up. JMHO !

Killain, good catch. Yes, I would concur. I wasn't thinking about a scenario of driving with the module removed, but rather driving with it not functioning but still in place.

Mods should probably lock this thread. Same poster had a very similar thread moved to Tech last week w/ same subject. Now there are two moved threads in C5/Tech titled "ABS Module".

OP - don't create multiple posts with same question / subject. C5 General will get you all sorts of (opinion: stupid) responses from anyone and everyone. Most of the respondents will have just about zero technical knowledge. Likewise, don't post general questions in the "Tech" forum. Here's how to tell...

Poster question for general forum: "I'm getting a code (h/cNNNN), can anyone recommend a mechanic in my area, and how much will it cost?" < 100% appropriate for "C5\General" forum.

Poster question for tech forum: "I'm getting a code (h/cNNNN), can anyone suggest a diagnostic procedure before I (try to fix it myself / take it to a pro)? Or should I attempt to ..." < 100% appropriate for "C5\Tech" forum.

Apply inverse logic to that to see what is NOT suitable for said forum.

Go back to your other moved thread and update with your current details. More, better people will respond with better suggestions. I will likely be one of them.
