I'm not very experienced with repair so any help would be much appreciated. I'm having trouble with my power supply following an alternator replacement on my 2002 vette.
My battery died about 10 months ago and I replaced it.
About 4 months ago, my alternator went bad and I replaced it myself. Everything seemed fine.
About two weeks ago, I'm getting failing alternator symptoms again- dash lights are flickering, ignition seems a little sluggish. Other systems may be sluggish (i.e. headlights delay in flipping up here and there.) Also, my voltage usually hovered between 13.0-13.9. Within the last two weeks, it now hovers between 14.0-14.8.
Does anyone have an idea about this issue? Could I have a bum new alternator? Could my serpentine belt be loose/wearing out? Could the old, failing alternator have wrecked my new battery?
When the diode pack fails an alternator starts putting out AC voltage. This is bad and can fry things and you usually notice as a boiling battery. Pull it and have it tested, soon. I suggest paying more for ac Delco parts. Where did your replacement come from?
