I have a ‘98 Coupe with 55k orig miles. Looks like I need to replace the orig starter.
Is it worth it to upgrade to a performance starter or just go with a stock original starter. Rod

That's a pretty short life for a starter if you do not have headers. How did you diagnose?
The short bolt has been noted to create stress in the mounting boss on ls1 blocks, possibly leading to cracks and missing chunks. Not a recurring subject here, so maybe not a significant concern, but it’s been big on ls1tech. Just a suggestion that if you’re changing the starter, perhaps using one of the two long bolt units is the best path.
I’m not a mechanic but I put a new battery in less than a year ago, and I tested the battery yesterday and it’s GOOD! In my limited knowledge, I’m guessing either Starter or Alternator and so I’m guessing starter.
When I turn the key I may get 1 click. Even with a Hot Start ( maybe not even needed) it won’t turn over…

Back in 2022, I traced a battery drain in my '99 FRC to the starter solenoid, so I replaced the whole thing with an AC/Delco #337-1115 starter assembly from RockAuto. Not a fun job with long tube headers.
