Bought car about 3-4 weeks ago and didnt have a problem with this message until I insalled a Blackwing message popped up after i check oil and it was low so I added a quart now drove like 3 days and warnign is coming back what should i do? What steps should i take? Car is NOT under warranty so how much would a re-ring run me?
thanks
dave
In it there is a reference to a reply from GM about the oil consumption problem, why it happens and what can be done to fix it without new rings. They mention driving style. Being a NEW Vette owner I can see ( personal expierences!!) that you may have placed your self in the DRIVING STYLE that this article mentions.
Read the post and find the article that one of the members links to and see if (driving style) could be the reason contributing to your oil consumption problem. You may also have some luck installing the PCV oil strainer MOD.
Let us know what you think about the article and about my theroy.
Re: HELP Low Oil Level DIC MESSAGE WHAT TO DO???? (1Bad2000C5)
I'm in the same boat....currently fighting with the dealer to do my re-ring. :boxing It still blows my mind that some dealers have the ***** to say "no, if it's not broke we won't fix it" even when there is a known issue and a many bulletins out about this issue. I'm probably going to have to get GM involved. I don't care what anyone says, burning that much oil in any new car under 100k miles with all the new technology out is just NOT RIGHT. By the way, it doesn't have anything to do with the Blackwing as I just put mine on about a week ago. :seeya Congrats on the BW.

I can't believe you burnt a quart of oil in 3 days.....How many miles in 3 days? how many total miles on car? could have a leak problem and not a burn problem.
blackwing install is probably just coincidental.......

SLOW DOWN 1 Bad,
I had the same problem when I first got my '99. Thought the world was coming to an end.
Check the oil level after the vette sits for at least an hour. If it's low bring the level full. You will burn more if your driving agressive. :steering: Check the level weekly. I was burning a qt. every 3k. It stopped burning after 24k  I've got a feeling your first reading was wrong.
