Default A Mystery

Several months ago the ABS/Traction Control lights reared their ugly head on my 02 Base Corvette. Tried the basic module repair at a local shop. Did not work out. Sent to ABS Fixer who said module could not be repaired. Then I purchased a remanufactured module(OUCH).
The original code I was getting was C1218. The code with the remanufactured was C1233, this code would show up when I would hit 75mph. I then decided to change my front hubs thinking a speed sensor problem. After getting a close look at the condition of my front suspension changes were made replacing worn parts.
Upon completion a new code was showing up C1226. Decided to take to an auto electric shop.
On the morning of my appointment I took off the custom fiber glass engine cover that I have had on for the last three years. This was a one piece cover which covered the fuel rails and intake. During the 40 minute ride to the shop NO CODES, NO LIGHTS. The shop ran diagnostics and checked for problems. They found nothing.
Drove the car home, no problems. This morning I took a nice long ride, again no problems. When I came home I reinstalled the engine cover and backed out of my driveway and there they were. Code and lights were back. Took engine cover off problem solved.
I am totally baffled how this cover could cause problems with the abs system. Any Ideas?
I'm interested in all thoughts on this.
Thanks,
hclaeson HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all

You have incountered a somewhat pesty Corvette sprite... undoubtedly best to just feed it what it wants (polishing with a baby diaper cloth)... speak softly but... Don't let anyone see you. 😏 and put a call into Goastbusters.

I'd guess the cover is conductive and picking up a signal from one source and inducing noise elsewhere that interferes with the EBCM signal.
Since it worked for years with no issues seems likely there are multiple factors involved.

Do you have a picture of this cover and what is it made of ???…I would just inspect any wiring harnesses near this cover…you can trace the EBCM wiring harnesses and see if it’s anywhere near this cover.

This. Examine ALL contact points where the engine cover meets a wiring harness, etc.
