I’m trying to swap wheels i finally got old one off and it’s ruined now unfortunately. I can’t get that piece off in the photo just behind the threaded portion of the shaft it has 3 tabs on it and a snap ring behind it. Do I need adapter or does that piece come off? Please any help appreciated
Your stock steering wheel broke when you remove it. That part should be in steering wheel, not in steering shaft. Use dremel or that kind tool to cut that peace off.

thank you so much I work as a technician auto , never had that much trouble getting a wheel off any car in the past 30 years
WOW! That's going to be a real PITA to remove without damaging the shaft. Think I would try grinding a new hacksaw blade so it has teeth all the way to the end (on one end). May need to grind it, so it's not as wide, so it can fit all the way up to the yellow part. Wrap some tape around the other end of the blade to make a handle. If you're lucky, after sawing it almost all the way through, wedge a flat blade screwdriver or chisel in the cut and break it the rest of the way.
I had to do something similar to remove the pitman arm from the steering box on my truck. I was able to use an angle grinder for that but doubt you will be able to get any kind of cut-off wheel into that spot.
