Default exhaust questions

I'm sure this has been asked a million times on this forum....but since I am new (today) on the forum and just purchased my 1st Corvette I would appreciate some help. I would like a healthier sound (without being too loud) and obviously increase HP. Any opinions on exhaust systems (aftermarket) vs Z06 Ti headers and exhaust? Also what year Z06 exhaust system will "bolt-on" my 02 coupe?

Thanks in advance for any help!

There are numerous cat-back systems out there. None of which provide much of an increase in power. Most people do it strictly for the sound and better looks. Using the forum search will bring up tons of info on sound quality and loudness of the popular systems. The Z06 ti system is one, and you may be able to find this setup on the parts for sale forum.
The Z06 does not use ti headers, in fact your car has the same exhaust manifolds as the Z06. Adding headers will provide for a noticible increase in power, and again, there are many to choose from, and a search will bring up tons of info on these as well.

Both components (header and catback) have a very wide range in pricing, materials, and design. I perosnally chose the FLP header/cat/x-pipe system and the GHL catback, and am very pleased with it. Both are on the pricier end of the spectrum, but I feel I got what I paid for.

Good luck, and you will get many varying opinions on this subject. Try to research as much as possible before making your decision.

And of course, welcome to the forum. You will like it here.

cgione, HI,

As far as Catback Exhaust Systems are going, I can only give you my (biased) opinion. I am absolutely happy with the complete setup from MagnaFlow => Catback plus their CrossoverPipe (bought from THE LAPD - thanks, an unforgettable 5*****-Star experience). The pricing for this complete System is really fair, adequate.

The construction/build/weldings/fit : everything is first rate here - even by closer look ! If possible, try to check-out this System with an other colleagues Vette.

Exhaust then is as a religion as well. Many excellent products share the market. For sure you will find a hundreds of varying comments - further, everyone has is own taste, everything is so subjective, and mostly likes what he has on the Car.

Those Magnas give you, at Idle Power, that very nice, deep and determined V8-rumble - exactly what I was searching for for so long time. The waiting paid off, for sure.

On Power, the tone changes dramatically to a big fat but always nice and powerful sound of relatively deep, but very expressed roaring - best in second gear above 3'000rpm. You would like it, I suppose !! No unfriendly resonances neither. Inside the Car you are always easy and not annoyed. And I guarantee, your on-board stereo system will start to internally corrode, simple reason : you, from then on, you will only like to hear your powerful exhaust sound........the best music is coming from astern......

Good luck to your exhaust evaluation and, last but not least :

I've an 01 6-spd convertible. I had put a Corsa Pace car system on it. Looks good but didn't like the sound. I replaced it with a Borla Stinger and it sounds great. Maybe adds 10-12HP. If you want to boost your HP a little add a cold air breather system. I've got a Breathless Vortex system. The Vararam is probably the best concept for HP but I was afraid of sucking water and ruining my engine with it. Their are many others available. Get you a Mid-America catalog. Try http://www.madirect.com. Good luck and happy moding!
