started on the finishing steps on the new balancer install. balancer on and old bolt torqued to 240. new bolt to 37 lbs. and when I started to get the 135 degrees lower back strain stopped me
. that was last week in December. still on the mend. question is the new factory bolt is on at about 130lbs and I planned to finish when I recover and was wondering if I can just finish where it is right now without getting a new bolt and starting over. might just get the ARP bolt and go to 235 and forget it. there will be no more pushing or pulling on my 20 inch torque wrench as I'll use my digital torque meter on a breaker bar and a floor jack. I really should have known better than to try to crank the 240 the second time as i'm 78 and 165 lbs. it's been a long time since I had back strain and just forgot about it. this is a retirement pleasure car that hardly sees anything over 3500 rpm so I don't think pinning was necessary. I do all my maint. myself as I will not want someone to try to do what messed me up. suggestions?

Did you use the old bolt to install the balancer? The ARP bolt is 235 ft/lbs WITH ARP assembly lube.
Perhaps a local forum member can supply a nice piece of pipe and extra set of hands. No shame in getting a little help.

So, do you know for sure how many degrees of the 140 you turned the bolt when you stopped?
If you're not sure about that, then probably should start fresh.
thanks for the reply lucky. i did use the old bolt to get to 240. i got the new bolt about 20 degrees according to my witness mark before lower back gave out. used to be about two weeks for this to heal but i was a lot younger then. i have watched a couple you-tube vids where the owner used his floor jack to finish his project. went fast. still a little pissed at myself for letting this happen. it's cold here in central ohio but this spring i'll finish. got plenty of time to think it over. thanks again. Denny
thanks for the reply Ltngdrvr. did not get too far. as stated looks only about 20 degrees + or - a couple. if I decide to start fresh I probably will go with the ARP bolt. from what I read 20 degrees is not enough to stretch the tty bolt.
thanks Bicklebok. i'm very lucky to be able to do what I love to do. it all started in 1956 when my dad gave my brother and me a Bug go cart for Christmas. i've got to know my limits a little better though. thanks again
When I was you age I installed an new oem bolt but i used a Truck wheel 50 to1 reducing tool from HF. I braced one end on the transverse bar in front an used my 9" ratchet and put it on. Wished I had taken pictures when I did it. I have also used on on two of my friends C5's.
thanks for the reply Gordy. not sure what a truck wheel 50to1 reducing tool is. i'd like to check it out but not sure what to look for. plan on using my floor jack but open to anything that will eliminate back strain. I think I'll use the ARP bolt to eliminate the extra bs with the factory bolt.

50 t0 1 tool is a gear reduction adapter to go on a lug socket for tire guys to use on big truck lug nuts.
