Default AC Fans 1-4 Not Working

I just replaced the blower motor resistor on my 98' C5 as it went bad. I started the car and found that now my AC fan dials 1-4 do not work. AC Fan speed 5 works just fine and blows very cold and hot. Only items that do not work are the Fan speeds of 1-4. Could this be the blower motor itself or the dial area? Please let me know if any more info is needed.

So you have manual HVAC. What do you mean the blower motor resistor went "bad" ? Was there troubleshooting involved? Where did you get the replacement part and what part number did you order?

So, the resistor for the blow motor went out, after 4 days of research I narrowed it down to the resistor itself. I went out to my garage one day the blower motor was just running and I couldn't get it to turn off, so I unplugged the battery.

I did more research to see what part to order and I ordered from Auto-Zone after more research to make sure it was the right one. Part Number is JA1582. Everything fit perfect and had no issues besides breaking my back to get to it lol.

Ok, so no troubleshooting then. Just because the part fit, does not mean it's good. If you do not have a test light or DMM, then there is little that can be done to isolate the issue. At a minimum, you need to know that 12 volts from the control head is going to the respective contacts on the blower motor resistor module. You could also evaluate the resistance through the resistor module, but you would need a meter to do that .

What you know is good:
1) Blower motor relay
2) G202
3) Blower motor
4) Fuse 18 and Fuse 49

What is in question:
1) Control panel output
2) Resistor module
3) Associated wiring (least likely)

So again, if you are unable to troubleshoot, I would get a Genuine GM part. Here is one example:

So what would the difference be in the parts because they look identical to what I installed. Also would there be any other fuses I should check?

Would you look to replace the Resistor first or try to replace the control panel first.

I am not at all experienced with this car as I got it from my Grandma after my granddad passed and he kept it in his garage most of its lift and basically all OEM still. So I just keep finding things that are just failing and getting old.

I listed the two fuses of concern, which both have to be good based on your description of operation.

I would not replace ANYTHING unless I knew for certain it was defective. I would take the car to a trusted auto electric shop for troubleshooting. Honestly, any good shop can isolate this in 10 minutes. If you are dead set on just changing parts, then I would favor getting the genuine GM resistor module.
I have no other advice. Good luck.

Resistors can appear identical, but have different resistance values. Perhaps the resistor value you installed is too low. In other words, it flows enough current to allow too high of a fan speed at lower settings, making them inoperable. Just a guess.....

The high speed (5 on the control head) does not go through the resistors. The OP installed a sealed module that has different resistance paths to the blower motor.......not individual resistors.
