Default Fuel filter replacement

Is fuel filter/fuel lines under pressure while engine is off? Need to change filter after 25 years and 85,000 miles I would imagine. Anything to be careful of?

on another subject, which side of the 6 speed transmission should I find the detent ball for the shifter if I want to o the washer mod? I did give the area a look today while I have the car on a quick jack and couldn’t determine a definitive spot where it might be.

Thanks for any help!

Step #2 in your service manual for replacing the in-line fuel filter.

Small victories! At least for a 72 year old guy crawling around under his Vette. I found no fuel pressure in the system which surprised me somewhat. Removing the filter presented a couple of challenges just in finding the right tool. The outlet and return lines only required some long nose pliers to squeeze some plastic clips and the lines pulled right off. The inlet side required a fuel line release tool, which I had but could not for what ever reason get my metal tool to fit between the fuel line and the filter opening. Had to go to an auto parts store and found a set of plastic tools where it appeared the fingers were thinner, which apparently they were, and slid right in. Still no pressure in there but a good bit of fuel was in the body of the filter, most of which my shirt sleeve soaked right up! Of course install was a snap. Mission accomplished!

I learned early on when doing under car fuel filters to wrap a shop towel around each wrist. Never ever want to find out how bad gasoline burns your arm pit.
What brand filter did you go back in with ?
