Hi guys so I am currently in need of a little help with figuring out what the problem could be but first I wanted to let y'all know how I got to this situation. I was at my local drag strip and I went in for my practice pass and I did my burn out no problem, I stage and launch and tires were spinning in first gear so i let off to get traction and then i go again, I shifted into second gear and i hear a loud boom and the car doesn't move anymore. i push the clutch to start the car and it will start but the problem is that i can go into any gear without pressing the clutch so I am confused on what I would need to replace. In my opinion i think that I might have snapped the output shaft or maybe the drive shaft exploded and i will need to replace the whole torque tube. if you guys have any other clues on what it could be please let me know
If you cannot see anything obvious by performing a visual inspection of the underside of the vehicle you will need to drop the driveline to figure out what you have damaged.
There is a small inspection plate on the bell housing that you can remove to inspect the clutch, and pressure plate. Since the car will not move and you can shift with out pressing the clutch, tells me you have a disconnect before the transmission or at the transmission.
I agree. Either a torque tube coupler or input shaft. I'd think after whatever blew/broke you'd hear some sort of clanking/grinding when engaging the clutch. I suppose something could've happened with the shifter that makes you think you're shifting into all the gears but actually aren't shifting anything, but I doubt it. Only reason I say anything about the shifter is that usually you can't find every gear without something spinning inside the trans. Usually there's a gear or two that stop the shifter from completely engaging them. Obviously the shifter didn't "boom," but there may be more than one problem here, IDK....
