I am in the middle of installing an ATI dampner on my c5 corvette. I used the ATI crank pin kit while I was there, one thing it does mention without the pin kit you need to use high temp rtv in the keyway to prevent leaks go figure, but even with the key blocking the keyway wouldn't oil still leak through? Should I still add some rtv in the keyway to prevent oil leaks. Also I am using an ARP bolt which in the ATI instructions says to apply rtv to both sides of the washer instead of the ARP lube. Safe to say I'm pretty confused haha.
Anyway my question are
1. ARP lube or rtv on the washer
2. Should I still put some rtv in the crank pin area even though it's pinned
3. Black or red rtv? Black rtv is more resistant to oil but the max temp is 500 red is less resistant to oil and the max temp is 650. But the instructions call for
Unless there is something I'm not aware of on the ATI you don't need to RTV anything.
ARP lube on the washer and under head as well threads.
The pin or pins should just go in the crank and the washer on the bolt holds them in place. Should you need to remove the pins you can use a magnet. If you RTV them in that will make removing it for later work more difficult.
Nothing should leak or need to be sealed as the pin is half in the damper hub and crank on the outside of the main seal.
I'm going to do the Summit Damper this summer if I can get the parts rounded up, No RTV needed on it or to pin it.
Could call ATi and see if they have some special reason to use RTV over other brans installs.

The new ATI dampner i have has a keyway for use of their pin kit which you drill the side of the crankshaft hub and install a pin their instead of the face. So it's a little different situation since that keyway is there that allows oil to come through their that's why they say to fill the keyway with rtv if you aren't pinning the crank. That being said the pin tolerance is very tight and shouldn't let much or possibly any oil through i just wanted to see if I still should put a small amount of rtv there to make sure all that oil stays where it should

So much easier pinning the balancer with axial pin instead of a perpendicular pin. What a hassle. RTV? Come on.
