Default P1870 code first drive after rebuilt!!??

Just picked car up Wednesday after a total rebuild and z pak performance upgrade installed. 3-4th went out in 02 A4.

Took it back this morning as night after I picked it up i could tell suspension was loose. They fixed that up real quick.

Drove it around 70 miles round-trip and last 5 miles or so from being home I felt it slip from 1st to 2nd and sure enough (and thankfully) the computer caught it. Check engine light came on and P1870 code came as verification.

Looks like they gonna have to rebuild it again. Good thing its under warranty for 12 months.

My question is, does the warranty reset with another rebuild? ID assume if someone did a **** job, and it went out every 3 months with no negligence or misuse by driver, the original 12 months warranty couldn't jsur expire and leave driver out of a tranny if it went out again 3 months later ?

All shops are not the same. This really is a question for the specific shop that did the work.....but I assume they are closed right now .

yeah they closed. I'll find out Monday. I just had first rebuilt completed two days ago so the second go round won't really require a warranty reset.

What does your contract say?
If you don't have the warranty in writing then the shop determines all of the contract terms for all practical purposes.

How much are you guys paying for these rebuilds. A built 4L60 from RPM is like 3500, taxes, shipping, installation is more but why mess with something else? What are you saving? I’m ready for an RPM when the time comes.

Hope you get this trans thing sorted out. Check the fluid first before you make any conclusions. Did they rebuild the torque tube and do a shifter cable, kinda the while your in there items???

you were pretty damn spot on. Right at 3500 total.

I considered getting an RPM and am thinking maybe i should have. With my car below 500hp, the raybestos zpak upgrade, and me adding a trans cooler, I figured I'd be bulletproof. No track days for me with this car either.

The zpak alone should have made it bulletproof for around 100k miles at minimum. With the cooler too, I could see 150k as easy feat too.

But the warranty will cover whatever they do. Could be bad parts they used unbeknownst to them. Could be a screw up on their part or both.

Either way it is gettign rebuilt AGAIN less than a week after it's first rebuild.

I have all ideas that this time around they will pay closer attention and be more meticulous as I doubt it takes too many extra rebuilds before the profit they made on the first becomes a net loss.

Sorry for your troubles. Can’t believe it’s getting rebuilt again. I have a full bolt on coupe, stock 4L60 still. I’m surprised it hasn’t blown up yet with 87,000 miles on it, over 3000 miles of HPDE, numerous drag strip and auto cross days. I also have trans cooler, RPM diff with 3.73 gears and Yank3200 stall. It’s bound to blow up someday, but it’s a fun car, I don’t care, good luck with yours. A gear and converter really transforms the car, hopefully you can get that done someday if you like the way steep gearing feels.

thanks a lot. Original one had 165k miles on it. Only went out after trans fuel has to be let out lines and topped off.

It is such a fun car. no track days ahead for this car but whenever I commute 40 miles mostly highway for work, it is an experience i thoroughly emjoy with the windows down and top off the coupe.

Countryside all around. That's when it feels like a sports car. they may or may not have to do another rebuild. We shall see.
