Default Vortex Ram Air Induction

Has anyone heard of it? The car I am looking at has it. Any pros? cons? Also, I have noticed that it has blown dust/dirt in between the cracks when lifting the hood.

I have this on my car, and love it! The dust is due to a lack of a hood seal, which is fairly cheap to buy $10.00

The only concern with the Vortex is driving through standing water high enough where it would reach the intake for some nice water ingestion.

Other than that, its a great alternative to the stock airbox :yesnod:

I've had mine for a couple of years and also think it's a good product. I don't drive through standing water, so I haven't had any real concerns there. I've driven in heavy rain several times and no problems.

I do believe you could hydrolock your engine with these systems, but the seat of the pants improvement is worth a little inconvenience.

:iagree: Have it on my car. It really opens up the air flow to the engine. The con is a chance of water ingestion, meaning hydrolock. But IMO you would have to drive though standing water like 2 feet deep, and I would never take my car though that regardless if it was stock or had this mod on it. I would definitely recommend this mod, even if you choose to purchase a different car.

I've had one on both of my C5's and love them. I picked up 15 rwhp with that and PRT exhaust (don't know which added how much though).

I've used it for years. It provides as good of gains as any unit out there on the market.

To me its also the least prone to water ingestion of the cold air systems, because the filter is up higher, in the area of the stock box. If you get water high enough to hydrolock your motor with the vortex, then your also going to be right near the intake of the stock air box.

I am installing one on my 00 FRC. Have spoken to some others who have it and they seem to like it. You have to either cut the schroud or purchase a schroud with a cut in it to install. Those small clips that hold that schroud on are not fun to remove or install. Any tips on replacing the plasic clips that hold that schroud in place ? :boxing

For me the shroud cuts like butter with a utility knife, and is inexpensive, and easy to replace the shroud to go back to stock. I've installed several vortex cold air systems and its a piece of cake to do.

Had a Blackwing by Donaldson, Had a BPP Vortex Rammer, Had a Vararam, They are all very good products! If you go on the BPP web site you can see my actual "Fair" test between the Vararam and the Vortex "ON MY SETUP". The vortex worked the best for my setup at that time! I found the Vortex to be easy to maintain and it performed exactly the way it should. Be sure to use a colder thermostat and/or a fan controler along with the Vortex and cutting into the shroud will not have any heat issues.

Picked up 12.8 HP across most of the RPM range when I added it to my stock Z06. I did a before and after Dyno.

Installed mine myself last Summer. Fairly easy install and liked the power gain. I have nothing negative to say about it, except that the whole "hydrolock" possibility got me a little paranoid. So, I no longer drive it in the rain...PROBLEM SOLVED! I highly recommend the Vortex.
