Default Need help identifying part!

Hey guys I need help identifying this part, I was driving down the street when I heard a loud pop and found this part laying down underneath the dash on the driver side but everything seems to functioning properly. Is this an important part? And where does it go?

Kinda of looks like it, but it can't just pop out because it's locked behind the air bag. It may be part of the ignition switch.

I've tried doing a Google Photo search of it from your pictures but haven't come up with anything that looks exactly like it. If you have a Chevy dealership nearby, maybe their parts department might know.

Any update on what this part is? Maybe part of the ignition switch?

I have a new ignition switch sitting on the table saw, waiting for installation. The recess in the center does look like the one in the ignition switch, and the spring looks appropriate, but the part itself is completely unfamiliar -- and it is awfully big. Have not, of course, disassembled the switch to the level necessary to see the spring, but will take a look.

I'm still thinking ignition switch, though I have not taken mine apart to verify -- for the rotary portion of the switch you have to overcome six latch points at the same time, and I just don't have that many shims handy.

Not the ignition switch. Looks to be part of the blend doors for the heater core.

Agree it certainly looks exactly the same in the center as an ignition switch, but if so how can the OP report everything seeming to function normally?

Is it the vats lock part that with the chipped key or bypass wouldn't engage?

I'm still curious about what this actually is, wish the OP would let us know what he found out.
