Default Clutch Problem

Our 99 C5 FRC clutch (original) was replaced 2500+/- miles ago - Vette has 121,000 +/- miles. In the morning when I start the car and let the clutch out it is very smooth. During the day when the car warms up and I drive it letting the clutch out is grabby/chattery - not like when it is cold. I have no problem shifting thru the gears. I have no problem on the highway - just stop and go! My mechanic - extensive Vette experience - took the car for several days - no problems. His advice - "Learn To Drive"! We have had the Vette since 2008 - 80,000 miles. I've been driving for 65 years! ??Change the fluid (ranger method) - (thought from several club member). Any thoughts/advice appreciated - selling the car and getting an automatic is not an option!

I would take the car out for a drive and find somewhere you can dump the clutch and break the tires free two or three times. A glaze can develop on the clutch surface. I have a monster clutch rated at 700hp, and have to do this every 4 months or so.

Did you follow proper break-in guidance when the new clutch was installed?

I can't honestly answer that question. I picked it up with 80+ miles on the new clutch - put on by the installer I trust. Didn't notice the problem until 1000 miles ago when. I started taking the car out on a regular basis including a three day 750 mile trip - interstate, country, and around town.

Have you gone out and done a couple of burn outs, my car's clutch acts completely fine after I do a couple of clutch dumps. The problem is the glaze that develops on the clutch surface, and it only acts up after it warms up.

Is this an OEM clutch? What was installed? And what supporting parts were installed.

If the clearance is comfortable when cold, but loses clearance and chatters when hot.... then what the other guys are saying about giving it some love sounds applicable. Go have fun with the car.

The fun girls like it best when you're rough.
