I might be wrong, but my understanding was that if the VATS system interferes, it cuts fuel, not crank?
There are a bunch of reasons why the car might not be cranking, what have you done to diagnose that it was the VATS/Security system and not something else?
I am getting a b2723 and b2721 code on my scanner and i deleted vats with HP tuners but my car will still not crank
That code is telling you the BCM is not reading the key resistance value. To my understanding, you cannot tune that out.
Possible issues:
-Contaminated/faulty key pellet
-Bad lock cylinder
-Bad BCM
-Bad associated wiring

When they BCM doesn't read the key resistance properly, the message "pull key for 10 sec" comes up on the display. The car will start, but fuel cut will occur at speeds above ~5mph iirc. However, you can disable the fuel cut with HPtuners so you can drive the car around, but the message saying pull key for 10sec will always be present if the key resistance does not match the expected range - even with the HPtuners change. This issue has no effect on starting the engine... only driving above ~5mph.
CheapC5: just to clarify does no crank to you mean (people often misuse these words, so I want to clarify):
1) the engine does not rotate? AKA the starter is not turning the engine over or
2) the starter is working and the engine is turning over, but you are not getting combustion and the engine is not turning on?

While I'm not an HP tuners expert, I understand how the system works. .....and NO.....the engine NOT crank if the key resistance is not read by the BCM......otherwise any key would start the engine.
Ok, I'm just going by experience, so I could be wrong. For my car, when I would start my engine and then get the message pull key (intermittent - 1 out of maybe 50 starts), It would idle as long as I want it to, but if I tried to drive the fuel cut happens? After I purchased HPtuners and turned the fuel cut off - the pull key message will still appear, but I can drive the car like normal.
No issues with starting, just driving before the HPtuners change. What am I misunderstanding?

You are conflating Column Lock issues with Pass-Key(VATS) issues.
