The relay on the left was in position 44 of fuse/relay block (cooling fan 3).

The diagrams match and both are 40 amp. PIN layout matches. The form factor of the new one is obviously significantly smaller.

Is the new, smaller one compatible?

Thank you

What leads you to believe the smaller relay is rated for 40 amps? The one on the right is an copy of the original Omron 7866....let me guess, Amazon? Made in the USA? I'm dubious.

You won't find the Omron 7234 anymore(unless you find NOS). The available GM replacement for that relay is GM 13503103.

You caught me. Yes, Amazon . Online specs say 40 amps. Thanks for the reference.

Omron does make a relay with that Part Number, but it says Omron on it. So the one you got is probably a counterfeit (copy) relay.

Discontinued years ago by Omron.

If the pin out is an exact match, it should work; after all it is just a simple relay. As to how long it will work is questionable. The quality of the smaller relay is unknown.
