Default 2002 C5 LS1 Crankshaft

My ATI Harmonic balancer recently spun itself loose so badly that it wore both itself and the crank snout down badly enough to require replacement of both parts. The new balancer didn't even come close to properly fitting on the snout and the snout diameter is well beyond the acceptable .0007-.0009" margin recommended by ATI when compared to the balancer hub diameter. With that said, does anyone have any suggestions on new crankshafts? I am not looking to modify the car in any way and have no interest in turbo or supercharging it at any point in the future, I just need something as close to stock as possible without being a used part.

From the many sources I’ve read over time, the LS6 crank isn’t supposed to be particularly special among the Gen 3 engines, with a common stroke. Availability, even today, should be good.
That said, certainly seems like an opportunity for more displacement…

Just buy an LS1/LS2/LS3/LS6 crank. Be sure whichever one you choose has the correct 24x reluctor wheel. Or you can probably re-use the one you have. You may want to consider having the crank and balancer keyed. Then there's not much chance of this ever happening again. Also could be a selling point for a future owner, who may want to run a blower on the motor. Shouldn't cost you too much more......

Nothing wrong with a used crank that measures in spec for journal diameter.

5.3 5.7 6.0 and 6.2 all used the same crank. But, each is balanced different due to rod and piston weight.

If you can’t find a good 5.7 crank, an early 5.3 crank 03 and older will be the best bet.

Right, Ron. I should've mentioned that checking the balance of the rotating assembly should be done regardless of which crank he goes with....
