I know there are several threads on headlights…I searched and could not find my issue. My passenger side headlight will sometimes not go up. If I go in and turn the manual **** just a half turn, it starts to work. It doesn’t matter which way I turn it, it will work after that slight turn. It goes up and down; but if I try again in a few days, I have to do the same thing. Any ideas?
Most likely the plastic gear has a worn spot, by manually turning the **** you move the gear from the bad spot on the gear. I had this problem and replaced the gear with a brass one.

Thank you! I will order the brass ones. It’s probably a good idea to change these on both lights and stay ahead of problems.
I would NOT order the brass ones; GM engineers PURPOSELY made them of nylon so that if there was any issue you would strip the small inexpensive gear rather than the large VERY expensive motor. Just buy replacement nylon gears and they will outlive you and the car :-)

After some research and conversation with Vette expert, I am buying a rebuild kit with the plastic gear. He agreed that the brass could the motor, which are very reliable even in old age.

Wow, you better get the word out. They have been in use for 20 years, and every corvette restoration parts house sells them.
