Thermostat mod. 2003 vette

I don't know about other model years, but the stat in the 03' cannot be shimmed. There is no longer a hole for the shaft, just a small dimple. I swapped mine for an older model and did the mod. :steering:

hey, I'm trying to do the stat mod to my 2k c5, what size shimm fits on the little pole? I don't feel like taking my stat out and messuring since the car is kept 50 miles away from me.

The stat I used was from a 2000 C5 with 4000 miles. The engine was blown.
It had the deep hole so I used a .101 length and 3/16 diameter shim and am getting 170 degrees on the road. Fan 1 is set at 186 and it stays there at idle. So, I can change the fans for summer if needed. :steering:

Please explain this mod. I have never heard of it before. Are there any pictures or detailed info in another post somewhere??? I have a 02 ZO6 and would like to accomplish this mod on her.
