i've had a few post on here about my DIC buttons not working and how I was going to solve this. I was out riding around this afternoon and stopped in to see my friend who has a truck and auto repair business. they had a 2002 c5 in for a turn signal problem. they knew I was going to remove my IPC in a few weeks and asked if I wanted to watch them remove the one in the shop. I said hell yes. 20 minutes and they had it out. did not remove the center console or dash or pillar. I'm not intimidated by this project any more. I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time.
they did the underneath unbolts and the trunk and emergency and inside ac air temp sensor covers and had to pull back the part of the console cover that covers the ignition key and the temp sensor very carefully without breaking it. drop the steering column, with the screws removed from the upper panel lift it up slightly and pull out by tilting to the right a little and down with the right side and up with the left. hope I described this ok and if you need more of a description let me know while it's still fresh in my mind. btw the lower knee cover had the temp sensor still attached to it if that helps. they just unplugged it from behind. that c5 had the HUD and mine does not so that's just one more wire harness I don't have to mess with. those two guys are very good with the c5 corvettes for being as young as they are.
Are they located in the Columbus area? That may be a better option to have them replace my DIC buttons.
Very few DIC issues have been reported as corrected by replacing the DIC buttons. Not saying there hasn’t been some, but some diagnostics should be involved — which, unfortunately, as far as I can tell require removal of the IPC.
Very interesting thread. My DIC buttons all work, but the top 3 sometimes don't, and sometimes do, illuminate at night! Most often, they do not. All bulbs were checked and were OK. Go figure.
