There was no vette in the year 200.

Your owner's manual describes the process in chapter four in the "competitive driving" section. Hold the button down for about 5 seconds to enter competitive driving mode.

Does your car have active handling? It was optional until 2001. Without active handling, the car just has ABS and traction control functions and the button only turns traction control on and off.

Traction Control/Active Handling System On/Off Switch
The Traction Control/Active Handling On/Off Switch is a momentary on switch that allows the driver to shut off the TCS and Active Handling (RPO JL4) if equipped, for personal or diagnostic reasons, by pressing and releasing the switch. If the vehicle is equipped with Active Handling, the TCS/Active Handling On/Off switch can be pressed and held for 5 seconds; this places the system in Competitive driving mode. Competitive driving mode turns the TCS off but still allows Active Handling to be active. The switch is located in the center console.

Ok.....do you have JL4 ?? If you are not sure, look inside the glove box door at your RPO codes.

C5 (1997-2004): JL9 was the only RPO code for the brakes, indicating the standard 12-inch rotors.

Right, no competition mode.....not clear how that makes you "screwed" though?

You are certainly not "screwed" by not having Competitive Driving Mode. It is not very good on the C5. If you are doing motorsport events, you are much better off just turning Off Traction Control and learning how to drive the car to its limits. And for driving on the street, just leave TC On.

Agree on last post. Just so you know, there are some guys that wish they didn't have AH. Purely subjective. But you will learn to be a better driver without the "nannies."
