I've read up on the 30+ archived threads on these coolers (B&M) and the installs look easy and clean...but how hard are they really. I'm getting gears and a TC installed in about two weeks and was thinking I'd go ahead and try to put in the cooler now...I know they come with the install kit but others have recommended AN fittings and steel braided hoses...first of all is this necessary and second, where do you find these fittings...I just don't want to get it and end up giving up when I can't figure it out. Thanks yall. :steering:
I used rubber hose, plus some metal fitting and things work just fine. Earls Performance parts would have everthing you need, it does take some planning.
Use what comes with the cooler. I have never had any problems with the three cooler installs I have done over the past 10 years (they even were purchased from PepBoys!!). You can go the expensive route with the high dollar hoses, etc. but rubber hoses spec'd for this application work just well. The only extra parts I bought were fittings from NAPA, which seem to have a good supply that you can funger over and decide what you need.
I have yet to see a really good write-up on how to install one...ask someone how to paint their calipers and this stuff comes out of the woodwork...but haven't seen any on how to install the trans cooler. All the threads I've read only say where the lines were run...call me stupid but I actually need to see pictures and instructions to do it...time's a tickin' thanks...

I don’t have the hosting site anymore, but will be more than happy to send them to you. I will have to find them on my computer. They are buried somewhere. If you want, you can e-mail me your latest email address and I will send them when I find them. My pic folder has tons of pics in it now and one of these days I will have to edit it!!!
My e-mail is roger.white@verizon.net
I will go look for the pics now and await your e-mail.
I put a tranny cooler on my A4 about 3 years ago (was one of the first to do it on here) - I've got my pics and writeup uploaded but am waiting for bandwidth permission from my server before I link to them.

Sam could you send me the write up or is the file too big?
Sam did a nice job on his writeup. Placing the cooler between the A/C condenser and the radiator is more stealthy and more protected than the usual position in front of the condenser, somewhat less efficient. Unless you are going to road-course the car or have a REALLY loose converter, any additional cooler will probably be sufficient.
Be very careful to get extra hose that is rated for trans cooler use, most stuff available locally will not take the heat and pressure. If none of the Forum vendors have what you need, Jegs sells it in their catalog.
Hope fully you have seen enough pics on the install.
I went with AN fittings and braided hose cause I felt safer with them and it is easily reversible. Frien of mine Al-B on the forum acutally purchased all the fittings and one had to be bent a little to clear. I can take pics of the finsished product but we did not take a lot of install pics.
