The problem with wood chunks or even aluminum and rubber twist lock pucks in the trunk or well is that if you need to lift the car while out and about for any reason you have to trust the weenie doing the lift can comprehend simple instruction -- which they can't. A bright red or blue "lift here" bobbin on the bottom of the car is pretty easy to identify. Though, I must admit, I've also thought about using some vinyl to mark the lift points, much like military aircraft munition lift points are marked.

Hmm. I've never considered the permanently mounted units before. I try to avoid anything which would wear into paint up here in the northeast for corrosion reasons. I was sitting here thinking yeah I'm still fine with my ancient homemade pucks, but I then I thought maybe slapping a layer of EPDM on the back of the leave-ins would be sufficient for those aluminum pucks.

Tusc, where would the contact area be with the paint, where the puck touches the frame? The aluminum ones are bolted on…that plus the EPDM would eliminate any movement that might wear the paint on the frame. The plastic ones I have are so light I doubt there would be any problem with paint contact. Unless I’m misunderstanding something?
