I'm sure that there are numerous threads about a Z06 clutch... Most of the information is dated and the links no longer work. So, I'm asking for your thoughts based on real-world experience and current offerings.
I'm "de-tracking" my '03 Z06 beast. Making it more "street friendly". Currently I have a Center force twin disk rated to 750 hp/torque. It's really tough for stop and go driving. Too aggressive.
From what I HAVE read here, the LS7 clutch setup is a nice conversion for the '03 Z...
Question is, WHERE is the best place (price sensitive) to buy it? I think I'd like to replace the clutch as well as the flywheel, and of course the pilot bearing and clutch slave cylinder. Rock auto no longer offers the LUK package and I understand that many others are simply rebranded versions of the same...
Have the Luk 04-905 LS7 kit in my C5Z, been 5.5 years now and it's a great option for my usage (street driving, including lots of stop-and-go). It's definitely a heavy clutch kit but this extra mass also improves drivability.
Seems like this kit is out of stock nearly EVERYWHERE so unfortunately you might have a tough time buying it regardless. Maybe ask Rock Auto if they have any insight into when they expect it back in stock? Failing that, it might be worth contacting Shaeffler / Luk, who at least don't seem to report it is discontinued: https://vehiclelifetimesolutions.sch...770/v-ACA-3232
I have an Advanced Auto semi-local who says they have an 04-905 in stock for $546. You might check with your local outlets.
The Luk kit was the value leader, going for $400 or so within the last year. Now it’s not only sold out all over, it seems to be listing in the $700+ range Wow.
Scoggin Dickey still sells a GM LS7 kit for the LS1 for a couple hundred more, with affordable options on hardware and even an aluminum flywheel: https://sdparts.com/i-23179965-sdpc-...MaAgNzEALw_wcB

Thank you. Its available from Parts Geek for $464.97!
I saw that as well... only 1 showing left, though! My concern there is if it was a returned unit; Luk does a pretty poor job packaging these clutch kits and sometimes the clutch disks get damaged in shipping. When that happens typically the vendor will ship out a new one and the bad one is returned.
Is there a "noticeable" difference between the LUK kit and McCloud or TIK? There's a pretty good price difference, but is it worth it? I MIGHT track the car once in a while, but it will mostly be a spirited street car that MAYBE the wife might be able to drive...
Oh lord - I just did a deep dive on clutches for my 2002 Z06
I ended up landing on a Monster Clutch S-Twin, which according to everyone I spoken to feels like a factory clutch with a lightened flywheel.
The LS7 clutch conversion is a great package, except it's heavier than the factory setup by a couple of pounds and the flywheel is 12" instead of 11". The larger diameter flywheel increases Moment of Inertia by quite a bit.
With rotating mass, pounds of extra weight is a no go for me. You can buy the Ram Aluminum flywheel to bring this back down about equal to factory LS6, but that's a couple hundred extra $. MOI is still higher. TPS and Tick both keep LS7 Clutches on the shelf, I believe they are both $599 but come with some hardware and such.
I also looked hard at the Monster S-Series Single Disc Clutch which is closer to the design of the LS6 clutch. It comes with a 28lbs billet flywheel. More expensive, than LS7 but holds more power.
Mcleod rst is wonderful for street driving. Just sayin
That clutch is a hit or miss. Many people had had good reviews and many had bad reviews. Major concern was chatter which is the worst to drive with. I got lucky and got the chatter. If you get the chatter it surely detries you to good for a nice ride. Research.
I stopped suggesting even if i had a good experience with a clutch it always seems someone had the opposite.

Your thoughts please!
Thank you.

I've had that Centerforce in my car for a long time now. I really like it with a lightweight flywheel. But I could see how some would find it not so fun for weekend cruising after a while. It is pretty stiff. But it's held up well for many years, miles, track days for me. When it dies I'll likely get a McLeod RXT next.
I tried a LUK "Z06 clutch" with standard flywheel for about a year before the Centerforce and I hated it. It was not only lethargic and clumsy, it didnt like hard driving and would stick to the floor after a few passes at the track. Truck clutch in a lightweight sports car .
I vote "no" on the LUK if your Z06 is a "beast". I think you'll regret it.
I would spend the extra money and put the Monster S Series Twin Disc Clutch in your car. I struggled with high rpm disengagement with both the LS6 and LS7 clutches. The monster twin hasn't had any of those issues. It drives like a stock clutch and yet will hold 700HP.
