Hey everyone! It’s nice to finally be here in this forum, I need some help with an electrical issue with my C5. It’s a 2000, manual, and I have a short. No idea how to check it. I own a multimeter but don’t know how to find out the issue. My headlights won’t go down, I replace fuse 6 and it instantly pops, I replace fuse 2 and it sparks. My cluster is on when the car is off and when it’s on, all the lights are off, otherwise everything works fine. Replacing the fuses isn’t enough. It happened one day that I went to the self wash then drove around then brought it home. Before when I’d put a #6 in it would lower the lights but that doesn’t work now. I’m using 10amps for both. I would really like to fix it but idk where to start or how to complete the job. I’m praying someone can suggest and easy fix if they’ve had a similar issue. I know these cars have their quirks. Please help! Happy to answer any questions that may help find a solution. I need my cluster to work again at the least and would like have the pop ups go back down.
P.S. I’ve already checked and cleaned all the grounds. The battery also had good voltage. Alternator seemed fine too.
Electrical diagnostics is not easy and 99.9% of professionals find it difficult also...without this knowledge you should take the car to an auto electric shop in your area...it is impossible for us to diagnose this for you especially an electrical one...BTW, this is not a ground problem...there are basic electrical videos you may find on YouTube.
As has already been mentioned, electrical problems are very tough to diagnose online. I would suspect your headlight control module is causing the problem with your headlights, it is located underneath the passenger side headlight.
