I have a manual c5 base model, it won't start, i changed the starter, checked the tdr relay, cleaned all grounds in the engine bay, and got a new battery. Car still wont start the security light doesn’t blink when attempting to start. The dash lights up and then ***** off when attempting to crank.
When you say you "checked" the TDR relay how did you check it ??...visually or with a DMM and or a test light ??....if you can't diagnose this with this DMM and test light you'll just be changing a bunch of parts...if you can't follow the schematic below and use some electrical testing equipment take your car to a shop...just cleaning the engine bay grounds doesn't accomplish anything...they are not involved in the starting system anyway and we don't check them by cleaning or looking at them...we dynamically "load" test the grounds to make sure they can carry current back to the battery from whatever the load is...there is no single "silver bullet" for every starting system malfunction...you must test...always a good idea to let us know the model year...you can fill out your profile with this information...BTW, the security light should go out after the key is turned on...and you always check for codes whether using the DIC or preferably a decent scan tool.
C5 Diag hit the nail on the head. I went through this crap with my car for the longest because my issue was intermittent. Kept chasing the ignition switch "just because" it was the most common problem. When I checked the TDR, I had only shot the hot side and never shot the wires in the crank position. This is responsible for sending voltage to the starter which turns out was my intermittent problem. R2d TDR been good ever since. Follow the above schematic starting with the most simple first.
No cranking intermittent problem are not very hard to solve. You must first determine that the TDR is being energized when the key is rotated to the crank position. If the TDR clicks on each and every time, but the car fails to crank over then it's either the contacts inside the TDR or loose electrical connections at the starter solenoid.
