I spotted this on the forum. I just bought the Blackwing. Anybody have this cover and if so is it a good investment/enhancement/support for the Blackwing?
This new induction cover will help draw cool air into the motor. Cooler air equals more horsepower and lower 1/4 mile times.

Re: Blackwing cool air induction cover ??? (Patches)
It will allow you to take in cooler air from underneith the car, but it also exposes you to the possibility of hydrolock. Surgeing was also reported as a problem. For the POTENTIAL problems, I don't know if it is worth the 5 additional HP gain over non cold air.

Another piece of info, I know that when I cut a hole (it was already there from another mod) in my shroud BELOW the Blackwing, surging was apparent around 30-40 mph. I plugged up the hole and the surging went away.
Re: Blackwing cool air induction cover ??? (Patches)
Last year, a few members reported surging problems when using this cover with their BW's.
I had the cold air set-up on my 01. I had it removed due to the surging problem. It would really only maifest itself at highway speeds and low RPM (ie 80 mph in 5th or 6th gear). It wasn't all that bad, but I chose to remove the cover, fill the hole in the radiator shroud, and drill three 1" holes in each parking light housing. I then installed Z06 screens so a person can't see these holes. Everything now works great!! My advice would be to skip the cold air cover/forced induction and go with the open BW and air holes in the parking housings (or similar, vented housings). Also, I have heard the surging is only a problem on '01 and newer 'vettes, but I have no experience to back that up.
