My car is my only car, it only goes to the track once a month...But, i do race once a week though.....so, which do you guys think well be a better choice of TC vigilante : 2600/2800...If you think i can go bigger or smaller let me know please....Thanx
I do not drive my C5 daily, but if I did, my 3500 Vigilante would not feel much different than the stock one under normal acceleration. I wanted real good acceleration at the track and pretty much achieved it with this converter. I did have to do a little tuning with LS1_Edit to the shift points, rpm, etc. to have it better suit my driving habits at the track, but other than that, it is right at home on the street as well as the track. You can search back through my posts since early last year and see the progress I have made with it. I chose Vigilante since I had experience with the brand in my Mustang days. It is efficient, does not produce much extra heat (I did add an inexpensive tranny cooler as insurance) and it has performed above my expectations at the track. My previous 305 RWHP and this converter/mods combo perform as well or better as cars with more hp and mods. I just added some long tubes (picked up 18 HP to 321-323 RWHP) and hope to hit the track soon for a another run at sub 12 sec. times before the weather starts to heat up and spoil the good et’s!
I would go with the Vig. 2800, if you have the extra cash I would also install at least 3.42 gears and save on labor if you later decide to upgrade your gearing. You can sometimes find used 3.42s on the used C5 Parts Forum for about $500.00.
I have used both Yank and Vig converters, I went with a vig this time because I didnt want to wait two months for a converter again. I had the vig3000 to my door in 2 days. As with any converter (within reason) after driving it for a few weeks you dont even notice anymore. Highway milage doesnt change since they are lockup but it wouldnt bother me to drive the car every day to work. The yanks seem to be a little more efficient though but I am happy with this converter so far - If i take it out to do the trans I will have it restalled to a 3500
how many 0.x did the TC shave off the 1/4 mile....I heared 0.2- 0.6... Is this true, Also, did anyone run their C5 before and after the TC, and what kinda times did you run...Thanx
Although my comparison results spanned cool and hot air situations (cool air when I ran stock and warm air when I ran with the converter for the first time), I easily reduced my 1/4 mile ET's 0.4 sec.’s with the 3500 Vigilante. My latest 60 ft. times have been 1.65 to 1.67 secs. This helps my ET’s tremendously!
