Default More Lowering Question

I still have not figured out how to do the front. I have had a jack under the a-arm and still nothing. Am I suppose to put another socket somewhere else? I have been told you do not even really have to jack the car up to do this task.. Please show me the way...

Also in the rear of the car I have two threads showing on each side and I can still fit about 4 fingers or more in between the tire and the fender. I also have brand new tires on the car.

This is for a 2000 Corvette Hardtop.

You need to put the jack on the spring itself to relieve the pressure. The spring (and adjusting bolt) is pressing down on the control arm, so if you jack on that, you are only increasing the pressure on the adjusting bolt, making it harder to turn. The spring is the black thing that goes from side to side, it's about 3" wide or so. You want to jack on it directly as close to the control arm as possible. Also, use a block of wood between the jack and spring, as the spring is soft fiberglass, and you don't want to scratch or nick it.

As for the back, you loosened the nut, which is correct. Have you driven the car at all since? You need to take it at least around the block to get it to sit down completely. If you have, and you still want it lower, you'll need longer bolts. 1/2" x 6.5" will work, and get locknuts for them as well.

Oh yeah the back has been done for about 3 weeks and its only about half inch lower. It still looks like a monster truck.

Also on the front, I have been told that you do not even need to jack up the front of the car. Can someone please explain to me what I am doing wrong?

easy as pie, if you cant do it then just take it to Corvettes of Houston or MTI or something and have them do it - I'm sure they wouldnt charge too much.

Im no n00b to this but for some reason I tried it and my front did not want to lower. The rear I have done also. The tech tips is like the hardest way to do it and I do not want to cut my bushings.. I dont want to be slammed but I want to be lower.

Did you turn the bolt as far as it could be turned? Did you turn it the right way? Did you go for a nice ride afterwards? If you did all that, then that is all that you get, if you want it lower you will have to think about cutting bushings.

Trust me, I felt the way you did...

CUT The bushings...

On the Rear cut one rib off the top and bottom bushing
On the front Back the bolt all the way out..Then cut 2 ribs with a hacksaw.

My car looks SWEET and no degradation in ride quality.

2 finger on the rear and about 2 and 1/2 in the front..

I also lowered my FRC last summer. I cut the rear bushings and got about 1 1/4" lower the front is adjusted all the way. My question is how do you get the front bushings off to cut them? Do you cut them in place? I'd like to drop another inch on the front. Thanks in advance. :)

You've probably gone down as far as your stock will take you... Here's a couple shots of my ride... I'm running 26 1/4" in front and 26 1/2 in rear... :) With 2/3 cut off the front bushing and WCC lowering bolts in rear....

I cut my fronts while they were on the car.. A real biotch of a job (45 minutes per side) I used a keyhole saw with plenty of spray lube to keep the blade from binding in the rubber...

Thanks for all the help guys! Chuckster, you gave me a brain storm on the saw. I'm going to buy / make a saw from wire, like guitar string and put a handle on each and and work it into a notch on the bushings. Would be easier to cut and should work out slick. This forum & it's members are great! :yesnod:

I had the same idea on the wire saw...But I could not find one....so I gave up and used the keyhole saw..

But now you have me thinking...
Try some 100lb test stainless steel fishing leader...try to wind the wire so tight it eventually slices right throught the rubber..

Damn I wish I had done that.. Could have save a bunch of time...
