During a recent 68deg. top down cruise I noticed a whistle during each shift under light to moderate acceleration. The sound lasted a few hundred rpms, then quit as rpms increased. Further underhood inspection locates the sound in the vicinity of the drivers side head aft of the throttle body.
I took the car in to the dealer who said the sound was normal and was exacerbated by the Blackwing.
Has anyone else experienced this? The car runs well , with no perceivable loss of performance. :flag
I have this too. It's only under light acceleration and seems to be dependent on throttle position rather than RPM. It's onlt at a very precise throttle position only under light acceleration.
Someone told me to take a look at the hose that goes from the passenger valve cover to the TB. I checked it and it did seem very loose. It had no clamps on it or anything. I zip tied the ends and it seemed to help for a bit but now it's back. I'm going to replace the hose and get some clamps. If that doesn't do it I'm not sure.
It's a PITA (pain in the ****) to reproduce because you can't rev the motor from the engine bay and it only seems to do it under load.
Although my Blackwing on my C5A4 does not produce this problem, I had an open element conical air filter on my F-150 and it bugged the heck out of me at idle and low rpms (in the Fast Food drive thru's, it was embarrassing!). It was a high-pitched tone and it went away with a burp of the throttle or when I gassed it. I took it off and went back to stock and the noise disappeared.
In your case, I would not go back to stock! Has it been there all the time the Blackwing was on?
First of all, as this was my first post, Thanks to all of you who responded.
The Blackwing had been on for awhile, But as I usually have the top up and the radio on , I may have not heard it, and as an aside I was sitting in the passenger seat on full alert with my 20yr. old son at the wheel for the first time.
Apologies for no car info on the post. Will figure out how.
I had a whistle similer to this on my 01.
Changing the manifold for an 02 version fixed it.
This was faily common on 01's. There is a factory
bulletin on this. You can find a lot of disscussion on this
topic in the forum arcives .
Do '03s have this problem? I was noticing a weird sound in the engine at light throttle on my A4 just yesterday (had the radio off). Car only has 800 miles, and didn't notice this before, probably because the first 700 were on the highway to bring car home.
I to have this whistle on stock air filter and have just put on the donaldson and still have the same noise.Think ive had the noise for about a year didnt notice it the first year.Hope its nothing bad.
