Here are some pictures from a recent clutch install. Since there has been much talk about clutch swaps, I thought some pics of what is involved might be of some interest for some folks. This car had the dreaded "pedal sticking to floor" problem. The car is a 2002 Z06, and the clutch was replaced with a stock unit.

A local, very trusted dealership, who did an excellent job...
Now that I have seen what is required, I would not be afraid to tackle this myself. The big thing is having enough clearance under the car to drop the rear cradle, and to drop the torque tube/tranny/rear...
Been there, done that 3 times!!! Believe it or not, nevrenuf and I have removed and installed his tranny with his car on jackstands. Actually it is not that hard...

Yes, all transaxles pretty much look like that. That is a manual. The automatics have a different looking case for the transmission part. But, that is how they look.
Perhaps I should rephrase my questions. I understand what a transaxle looks like... I am wondering if Chevrolet put these transaxles in all year C5's? Or did the use the standard configuration of bolting the bellhousing to the engine block in the first few years, and later on switch to the transaxle design?

Jacob,
An interesting read about the transaxle and C5 in general is the book "All Corvettes are Red". I provides some interesting information on the torque tube and C5 backbone development.
