If YOUR INTERSTED IN DOING THIS I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS AN 2002 AUTOMATIC AND WANTS TO SWAP IT FOR A 6 SPEED. I CAN DO THE SWAP. LET ME KNOW IF YOUR SERIOUS.
Tell you what, why don't you try racing one of those slushboxes with a shift kit this summer?
You may want to hang out in this thread and see how much it costs to swap them out. :yesnod:
No thanks I will stick to just racing my car AROUND the track and select my own gears. First off it is just more fun and secondly I just don't think the slushbox with or without a shift kit will select the right gear for me based on the type of corner I am driving into. Can the shift kit see ahead judge the apex and select the right gear? :jester
Am I missing something here? :D

Yes you are :yesnod: Automatics don't have a clutch pedal but they do have a shift lever so you can select the gear yourself. While you may find it fun to work three pedals with two feet, in some forms of road racing like Formula 1; electronically shifted transmissions have replaced manually shifted ones because of their consistency and they are less of a distraction when setting up for a corner.

You are comparing apples and raisons, the F1 tranny is a air or hydro shifted manual tranny, it is NOT an automatic with a torque converter and only 4 gears!!!!!!

That was sarcasm btw.... :D
I understand how an auto works.
The F1 cars do not have automatics. they have Semiautomatic sequential electronically controlled transmissions.
They are not as much for consistency as for milisecond shifts that would be not humanly possible with a traditional clutch setup.
The corvette A4 is not a semiautomatic sequential electronically controlled transmission so you are talking apples and oranges here.

In my opinion (and I am sure you will not agree) it does not belong in a sports car....period.

In a drag car where consistency is everything sure....auto is great.
My car is not a ZO6, but it was converted from a MN6 to an A4. You have to buy a seperate control unit from TCI that controls the tranny. Call Dave @ Cartek, he can fill you in, it's not an easy or cheap job, but my car is proof that it can be done!
Is it possible to switch out the manual trans with an auto for the ZO6? Would there be any modifications needed? :seeya
Unless you already have the Z06 or just have to have the FRC body style, why don't you get an A4 coupe or vert, and put all that money into a H/C or S/C setup and some rims,. You'll have the A4, Z06 performance, and a removable top.
If you don't already have the Z06, I'd just buy an automatic coupe. You can certainly shave the weight off the coupe to get it into Z06 range. The coupe won't have the suspension of the Z06, but if you are looking to mainly drag race the car it won't make any difference. If you already have the Z06, I would strongly consider selling or trading the car for an A4 coupe equipped the way you want it. With the money you will have left over, you should be able to mod the A4 VERY nicely. Yes, the Z06 can get down the 1320 d@mn fast, but that is not it's main purpose.
