Does anyone know about how much it should cost to remove and reinstall a C5 LS1? I'm having my 382 crank assembly re-balanced due to a vibration. The cost of removing the heads, pistons, connecting rods and regapping the rings and also checking the weight of each of the piston sub-assemblies is a given. The balancing of the crank varies dependent on whether they take out weight or add and how much. So any ideas what the R & R should cost here in Michigan. Still trying to get it right!
R&R books from GM is about 21 hours is what the dealership told me. You will find costs vary from about 1200 to about 2000 to take out an engine and reinstall it. Depanding on what you do to your engine while it is out will vary on what you put into the engine i.e. cam takes about 2 hours when the engine is out of the car.

Yep, but they are mine, all mine :) Just to give you idea, My mechanic is doing my engine take out and installing a whole new engine, putting in a new cam, valves, harden pushrods, retainers, and intake manifold all for just over 1000. He is also the head mechanic @ Chev. so good deals are out there look for them.
