Default ABS and Traction control

Has anyone ever had a service traction control and service ABS light illuminate at the same time? The only way it goes out is if I turn the car off
and restart it, oh by the way it's a 97 coupe with 53,000 mi.

The 97's had a design problem with their Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) that requires a newer part number to fix. In most cases it does not show up unless you are autocrossing or pushing the car around some corners. The problem is due to the EBTCM getting confused with the wheel speeds and shutting down. This can also happen when you are going over a bumpy surface. Newer C5s can have it happen also but it isn't as likely with the redesigned EBTCM. Back in 97 I flat spotted several race tires because of this problem. A GM insider told me what P/N EBTCM to get but it wasn't available until the next year. Once it was available the dealer replaced the EBTCM with the new number and I haven't had a problem since. When I went to Watkins Glen last September to watch Danny Kellermeyer run in the Touring Challenge for Corvettes I happened to see a toggle switch on the dash of his 99 FRC and asked what it was for. He described the exact same problem. However, he couldn't afford to turn off the ignition during a race so he set up the toggle switch to cut the power to the EBTCM and then turn it back on. It works like a champ and other than finding a place to locate it on a street car is very easy to do.

I have had to reset mine using the DIC a few times on track, but the stitch is a better solution.

I don't know of the 97' problem, but your trouble codes should tell you if you have a sensor problem. They fail pretty regularly, so check your codes.
