Optimal Exhaust/Header Sizes?
Obviously the optimal inner diameter for headers/cats/midpipes/exhaust depends on the types of application (stock, cam only, head/cam, forced induction, NOS, stroker). Has anyone seen any real data to help the selection process?
Here are my guesses. Please correct me if I am wrong. :crazy:
Stock, Cam Only - 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" header, 2.5" cat/midpipe/exhaust
Cam Only - 1 3/4" header, 2.5" cat/midpipe/exhaust
Mild H/C or NOS - 1 3/4" header, 2.5" or 3" cat/midpipe, 2.5" exhaust
Aggressive H/C or NOS, Forced Induction, Stroker - 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" header, 3" cat/midpipe/exhaust
I am particularly curious about:
- Big headers affect on low rpm torque with a mild application
- Effect of a 3" midpipe to a 2.5" exhaust in general
Anyone done any specific dyno comparisons that would offer soem insight?
