After a dozen or so LS1 cam swaps of course its my own car that I screw up - probably a good thing :)
When I first put the cam in I used an aftermarked pump (name withheld to prevent an argument) and the car had about 10psi less all around then the stock pump. When I put the heads on I decided to just put my old pump back in and make sure the o-ring was OK. The o-ring was OK so I put my stock pump back in (after being super careful with the o-ring) and ever since my cold oil pressure had been low (40psi cold idle) but once the oil temp came up above 120 everything was OK. That was a couple thousand miles ago, lots of dynos and a couple dragstrip passes..
Until last week when I changed the oil and the cold pressure was about 10psi at startup, then all of the sudden it would shoot to 30 at idle when it warmed up a bit. I decided to take it apart again and look at everything. Well here it is.. Its happened to a lot of people including GM so be careful
I have a whole pkg of those o-rings, its getting them in the car thats kind of a pain :) Even though after three times now I got it down pretty good - even figured an easy way to hold the flywheel on an A4 without the flywheel holer or removing the starter (which, thanks to FLP, you cant remove the starter without removing the header :( ).
I also have brand new stock pump this time to put in, plus I'll start it with just the balancer on to make sure this time :D
I have re-used the oold o-ring every time before and this was the first time I had a problem. I remember when I put this one on I put the tube in without the bolt, bolted down the pump and then tightened the pickup tube. I usually leave the bolts off the pump and carefully put the tube in and snug the bolt. Then tighten the oil pump and the the pickup bolt last. C5s are a lot easier to do then f-bodies, I just got over confident I guess..

This is one nice thing about my TTS headers. The starter can be removed without getting in the way of the header. Of course if you need to remove the header, you've got to remove the starter ;)
